Dentures

Well-fitting dentures help you eat, speak and smile comfortably. We make complete and partial dentures, adjust and reline existing ones, and can hold a denture in place with implants.

What it is

Complete dentures
Replace all the teeth in the upper or lower jaw.
Partial dentures
Fill gaps where some natural teeth remain, clipping onto those teeth.
Immediate dentures
Made ahead of time and placed on the day teeth are removed, so you're not without teeth while you heal.
Implant-retained dentures
A denture that clips onto two to four implants, so it stays put when you eat and speak. More about implants.
Relines, repairs and adjustments
Gums and bone change over time. A reline refits your denture to your mouth.

Who it can help

  • You are missing several or all of your teeth
  • Your denture is loose, rubs, or has cracked
  • Your lower denture moves when you eat

Getting new dentures

  1. Exam and impressionsWe check your gums and any remaining teeth, and take impressions.
  2. Bite and try-inWe record your bite and you try a wax version to check the look and fit.
  3. FittingYour finished denture is fitted and we show you how to care for it.
  4. AdjustmentsWe see you again to ease any sore spots as you get used to it.

Caring for your dentures

Take your dentures out and clean them every day, and keep them in water or a soaking solution overnight so your gums can rest. Sore spots are common at first; we'll adjust them. Bring your denture to your regular check-ups so we can check the fit.

Common questions

How long does it take to get used to new dentures?

Usually a few weeks. Speaking and eating get easier with practice. Start with soft foods cut into small pieces.

Should I sleep with my dentures in?

We generally recommend taking them out at night to give your gums a rest, unless we've advised otherwise.

How can I stop my lower denture from moving?

Two implants under a lower denture can hold it firmly in place. Ask us whether implants could work for you.

How often do dentures need replacing?

It varies. We check the fit at your regular visits and let you know when a reline or a new denture would help.
