Orthodontics & Invisalign
Straighter teeth can be easier to keep clean, and a good bite spreads chewing forces evenly. We offer Invisalign® clear aligners for teens and adults, and early orthodontic assessments and Myobrace® treatment for children.
What it is
Invisalign clear aligners
Invisalign straightens teeth with a series of custom clear aligners. Each set is worn for one to two weeks and then switched for the next. Aligners come out for eating and brushing, and need to be worn about 20 to 22 hours a day to work.
Early orthodontic assessments
For children, an orthodontic check around age 7 can show whether crowding or jaw growth needs attention. Dr. Simon pays particular attention to habits such as mouth breathing, which can affect how the jaws grow and how the teeth line up. When braces are the right choice, we refer you to an orthodontist.
Myobrace for children
Myobrace is a series of soft, removable appliances that a child wears for a short time each day and overnight, together with simple exercises. It aims to correct habits such as mouth breathing, tongue thrust and thumb-sucking, which can contribute to crooked teeth while the jaws are still growing. It needs daily commitment from the child and family, and results vary. We'll talk with you about whether it suits your child.
Who it can help
- Crowded or overlapping teeth
- Gaps between teeth
- Some bite problems
- Teeth that have shifted since braces
- Children who breathe through their mouth or have a thumb-sucking habit
Not every case suits aligners. If braces would work better for you, we'll tell you and refer you.
How Invisalign treatment works
- ConsultationWe examine your teeth and bite and talk about what you'd like to change.
- Your planWe scan your teeth and plan how they'll move, step by step, and you see a preview.
- AlignersYou switch aligners every one to two weeks, with check-ins along the way.
- RetainersRetainers hold your teeth in their new position once treatment ends.
Looking after your aligners
Brush and rinse your aligners every day, and take them out to eat or drink anything other than water. When treatment is finished, wear your retainers as instructed. Teeth tend to drift back without them.
Common questions
How long does Invisalign take?
It depends on how much the teeth need to move. We'll give you an estimate after your consultation.
Will aligners affect my speech?
Some people notice a slight lisp for the first few days, which usually fades quickly.
Do I have to wear retainers?
Yes. Teeth can shift throughout life, and retainers keep them where they are.
When should my child have an orthodontic check?
Around age 7. Most children won't need treatment then, but some problems are easier to manage when caught early.
What age is Myobrace for?
It's usually started while a child's jaws are still growing, often between about 5 and 12. We'll assess your child and tell you whether it's a good fit.
